Hog & Beef Share FAQs
Ordering & Options
Can I buy a quarter, half, or whole animal?
We currently offer half and full animals for both beef and pork.
How much does the meat cost through the farm?
Farm prices are based on hanging weight:
- Beef: ~$7.00 / lb
- Pork: ~$5.50 / lb
Note: Final cost varies based on the specific hanging weight of your animal.
How do I know what inventory/weights are available?
Because our livestock inventory changes regularly, please contact the farm directly to check current availability, animal counts, and estimated weights.
How the Process Works
Is pricing based on live weight or hanging weight?
All farm pricing is based on hanging weight (the weight of the animal after initial dressing, before individual cuts are made).
Who schedules the butcher appointment?
We take care of that for you!
- We deliver the pig or cow directly to the butcher (Country Pride).
- We share your animal number and final hanging weight with the butcher to attach to your order.
- You submit your cut sheet instructions directly to the butcher within 48 hours.
What butcher do you use, and where do I submit cut sheets?
We partner with Country Pride. Pork and beef require separate cut sheets so you can customize your specific cuts, packaging, and sausage options.
How long does processing take?
Once the animal arrives at Country Pride, the butchering process typically takes 4–5 days.
Billing, Taxes, & Policies
What extra fees will I pay at the butcher?
The butcher charges separately for processing, cutting, and packaging.
- Processing fees typically range from $1.00 to $4.00 per pound, depending on your specific cut sheet choices.
- We recommend contacting Country Pride directly for exact processing rate quotes.
Is there sales tax?
- Livestock / Farm Purchase: Standard livestock sales are exempt from sales tax.
- Butcher / Packaged Goods: If you purchase pre-packaged items or processing services through the butcher, standard local and Illinois sales tax apply.
What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
Because live animal processing involves third-party scheduling and custom cut choices, all sales are final. While we don't offer refunds or cancellations, you can transfer to someone else.
Pickup & Communications
How will I know when my order is ready?

- At Pickup: Contact Country Pride prior to pickup to confirm accepted payment methods for processing fees, required ID, or order confirmation details.
